Complex Trauma
The events and relationships that formed us have far-reaching consequences for our lives. There is a powerful inventory where this can be seen. It’s called the Adverse Childhood Experiences inventory (ACEs). It provides an eye-opening way to see the powerful effects of what we call trauma.
Most trauma is complex – It’s complicated. Traumatic actions that have happened to us are easier to see. If a CCTV cam was present, they could be shown. Such events are painful, gut-wrenching, and sometimes criminal. But trauma involves more than just obvious actions against us. Trauma also involves what we uniquely needed but was absent. This is more subtle and harder to discern, but it’s the source of significant sabotage in life. Identifying and resolving trauma is essential for discovering better ways forward in our lives.
