Dual Diagnosis & Substance Abuse

What family hasn’t been impacted by substance abuse and addiction?!   It’s pervasive. It’s life-altering- for everyone. As a matter of fact, it’s the reason I first attended Al-Anon.  It’s a group helping those married to or related to someone struggling with substance abuse and addiction.

When addiction is ignored, denied, accommodated, or enabled – it’s destructive.   My experience led me to working with Outpatient and Inpatient treatment centers. Of note is my ongoing work with the Meadows Behavioral Health Care System.

Substance abuse and addiction are rooted in trying to meet real needs in ways that bring immediate relief- but at a high cost. A sufficient treatment has to deal with both. Maybe you’re trying to determine what your relationship is with the substance you are using to cope with your life.  Maybe you know it’s a problem you’ve got to deal with, or you sense there will be consequences. Either way, we can find a better way forward.
