Meaning & Spirituality
“…And history became legend and legend became myth – and many things that ought not to have been forgotten were.“ -JRR Tolkien
Tolkien’s words, which begin his story, The Lord of the Rings, have stuck with me. We live in a culture of forgetfulness. Many significant things that “ought not to have been forgotten” have been.
Sometimes they were accidentally left behind. Sometimes they were just underappreciated or overlooked. Sometimes they were even conveniently denied. But when we leave behind what’s significant for life, then life will appear insignificant. Their absence is felt as a lack of meaning and boredom. Ignore these feelings, and they will grow into a dangerous hopeless despair.
Do you bring to life the perspectives that can recognize meaning and beauty? Does your perspective provide sufficient meaning to support the weight of your life’s demands? Or does it only allow you to see an endless, empty routine? Does the thought of your life going on as it currently is feel more like a trap than a future?
If you’re looking for more than you’re currently seeing in life, let’s rediscover what may have been forgotten and find a better way forward.
